A memory of a trip, long since past: I was travelling north to Darwin from Melbourne. My travelling companion and I had just had a major falling out, just before reaching the rock.

Right now I’m in Daylesford. The mineral spring capital of Australia. In the state of Victoria, an hour and a half north west of Melbourne.

reading by firelight
across the paper lampshade
a wasp crawls

the view from Hanging rock
a hawk on the wind

locked out
on this cottage porch I hear
a distant dog bark

scenic route
the narrow road
narrows further

my partners fingers
curl around the knife
