as I run through the lane.
I’m breaking free of the 5-7-5 syllables, and capitals and lots of punctuation. Mostly after reading Janice M Bostok’s website. I’d provide the link but I can’t be bothered. She’s an Australian haiku writer, and she’s put forward some convincing arguments (not that I needed much convincing!) to abandon the restrictiveness of a tradition that wasn’t from the original form of haiku. Although haiku was 17 syllables Japanese haiku were written in a single vertical line. I may even move towards single line haiku, like Marlene Mountain. I think it’s something worth exploring.
Here’s one I did just for a laugh:
You are guilty
but I wont convict you of
It’s obviously influenced by one of my favourite directors early notorious films. Yes John Waters ‘Pink flamingoes’!
